El Cid takes the Friendship Cup

Every year, El Cid Bowls Club takes on Javea Green Bowls Club for the Friendship Cup. No one can remember when the last time El Cid beat Javea for this cup – until now. The Cup is contested over two legs, one home and one away. El Cid went into the second leg with an impressive 76 point advantage which had to be protected. In the end, El Cid lost the second leg by just 2 points, winning the overall competition and therefore the cup, by a comfortable 74 points. They’re definitely going to need a bigger trophy cabinet at El Cid the way things are going for them!

Also this week, in the 6th leg of the Kings Cup competition, El Cid played against Finca Guila Bowls Club at El Cid. In a tightly played competition, El Cid managed to win 10 of the 12 points available, adding to their impressive overall points tally which sees them in second place overall with two more games to play and still in contention for the title. The penultimate game against Bonalba Bowls Club is next Wednesday the 26th June.

Starting on the 7th July, El Cid Bowls Club will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a week of events, including an Open Day on Friday 12th July where we invite anyone to come to our club and try out bowling for free with one of our friendly club members. Why not come along and join in our festivities. We even have Andy Thomson, a bowling World Champion at the event.

El Cid Bowls Club wins its First Community Cup!

Last weekend El Cid Bowls Club entered a team into the Federation Community Cup held at Bonalba Bowls Club.  The format was a 5 player, multi-discipline competition against many of the bowls clubs on the Costa Blanca. Our team comprised of Ian Brown, Hazel Brown, Debbie Connolly, Clive Scott and Paul Trunchion.

The first day (Saturday) saw our team win in all the disciplines against the Bonalba B Team which allowed our team to progress to the next day. On the Sunday, the team repeated their impressive performance beating Monte Mar Bowls Club, again in all disciplines. This propelled El Cid into the final of the competition which was against our good friends Javea Green Bowls Club on the Monday. As expected, it was a tough set of games, with the Triples winning their game, the Pairs losing theirs and the Rinks drawing their game. Fortunately, Ian Brown had beaten Javeas’ Derek Eldon by enough points (21-10) to win the competition overall, bringing the trophy to El Cid Bowls Club for the first time. Well done El Cid!
